A play sand question

I am rescaping my tank, and I need a very thick area of sand. Most of will be around the 2 inch mark, however for the one back area of my tank, in the centre, I need a very thick layer of sand - maybe around 3-3.5 inches. Would that be too thick? I heard play sand could become stagnant etc if it was too thick - would this be a bad idea?

anything over 2 inches will cause problems. fill stockings with pumice or inert gravel , that can be used to build up an area , with your sand on top.
