Umm...im still not sure about this. I had one running for best part of a year, but it was on a 300l. Not particularly noticed any significant difference since not running it. Perhaps if I had run it in smaller, higher input set up.

If you have precious livestock it is worth a consideration especially on hot Summer nights. I use them for 12 hours or so overnight.

I am using a Scapers tank to raise some M.sp "wapoga" (looks like red striped praecox). I did not get the whole package simply because it would not quite fit in the space I had for it. I have the 50l, but there is also a 70l version, but I have not seen it in this country.

I dont think it is. I have the 60x45x45 one and could only get it in black silicon, personally I was happy with. While the TMC price is very good, if I were doing this again I may well have gone NA, they have wooden stands (I think) which to my mind is much better than MDF.

I use an eheim pump and a hose, pump for taking water out and fill straight from the mixer tap. If you use decholrinator it would be cheaper to use somthing designed for ponds, or as I do use the powder; Seachem SAFE. It would last more than a year for your tank.

I will grow plants under the foot print it is desighned to illuminate. Lights targeted for the reef/marine market tend to be a cooler (higher kelvin) white light, but it you are ok with the aesthetics it is fine for growing plants.

I think you probably want to consider what you aim is. If like in Ady's response your focus is aquascaping, then yes generally stocking tends to be on the lower end of moderate, very aesthetic driven, one to three species perhaps. If it is about the fish then, you can stock heavier, in terms...

Yes I saw some vids of a guy in India making his own. I would make small ones to practice on, work out the technique before doing anything approaching what you really want. I think it is possible, but its a lot of water if it goes wrong :-o

What thickness Acrylic are Fista pricing the quote on? Neptunes will be based on 15mm for a normal braced tank. Braceless will be a lot thicker, not sure on Euro bracing.

Hi Dan, both of my largest tanks are made from Acrylic. I used Neptunes both times. They are also who TGM used to build thier large display tanks. There is one negative with Acrylic and that is that it scratches easier than glass. However you can remove those scratches while you cant easily...

A pond filter UV is usually a clarifier for green water and is less a sterilizer. The reason is that they tend to be relatively small compared to the volume of water they are rated for. If your system is about 600 litres and the UV filter rated at 25W then it will be about right for a sterilizer...

The x10 rule is such a generalisation, its not worth worrying over capacity vs actual volume. Its all approximation not an exact science.
