Oh and I can't rate purigen enough, I will never not use it. Never had a single (that I found) deficiency in me tank, shrimps where breeding plants where out of control....all was well.

Yeah good thinking, sure you can pick up tubing like that from b&q... Could get it with a ting to the tube as well, I had clear and would see some cruddy brown buildup on the tubing over time, I had glass ware intake outtake so just pushed the cleaning rod down tubing when I cleaned other bits...

Get a nice big bag of 'purigen' in there if you want water clear as Gin !! Excellent stuff and never runs out, just clean it in a bleach player mix and then wash through with a proper de bleaching thing can't remember the name. Some reading material :)...

Think even in a long tank one would give you enough flow for a river tank haha.

You'll pick up a fluval fx5 on eBay(or similar site) for around £100 so better flow then the eheim as the fx5 is 2300lph....then sell your other filter, and buy a few spare bits for the fx5 a seal a clip or 2 and what else you want. Megggggaaaaaaa filter!!!

Why not 2 fluval 405's They'll fit and there 1300lph each Teamed with spray bars your cooking on gas OR Have problems with growing plants and start threads on that and then hear the same info repeated in those threads in a months time

Go for the 2 ex1200's put both with spraybars and your away Or re mortgage and get the ehiem equivalent of the fx5 :) :)

Ok it was westy who had the problems not whitey haha Mines next to my bed and I fine with it. My gf never complains about it either. It's quite a built up area and I can see te a13 from my window so maybe I'm used to a little no of noise. very close to my bed haha

Azoo mignon on filters are very good. I'm currently using a all pond solutions HOB it's right next to my bed and I'm fine with it, very cheap and IME very good. Whitey had an issue with his however. If you don't mind spending a little extra I'd go with the mignon.

I'm sure there are much better, but I think there really ugly :( personal opinion I quite like the look of the APS one. I'm still tempted though as I know how good ehiem kit is from experience.

Gill what about a hon filter? Something like. Mignon 150 ( i think ) I used a mignon 360 on a 20 litter high tech and it did the job with justbabfew dead spots. Plus just buy a ehiem guard for the inlet and bobs yours dads brother.

At least 250lph Bur i was running a 360lph hang on filter on my 20l and that was good, I always like to go for 15-20x turn over of the tank an hour :)

I read else where that if you add together the size o the slits they should be atleast equal to the size diameter of the tube..... If that makes sense. I know people run large filters with glassware, and have only heard about opted tubing collapsing on the fx5 but that's like 3500lph or there...

I picked up a mignon 360hob for about 12quid posted of eBay It's really good, looks smart, easy to clean flow adjustable and had decent flow for the size 360lph.

that looks really smart. will hold abit more media than the hobs too, well quite abit more. i reckon the skimmer will be detachable, if not you have the option of the other intakes and outtakes, that one with the skimmer obviously is a shrimp safe one, the other one will probably muuuuuuunch...

im using a fluval 105 with cal aqua glassware looks great and the filter is really quite n easy to clean, obviously you have you ehiem now but just for any one thats reading looking for the same answer. also id highly recommend some spring washers if your going with glassware as there forever...
