IAPLC 2013 - Results are out!

Sorry, I must have been in a rather silly mood yesterday. The scape looks exactly like a 60 litre because it is in fact a 60 litre, I just found the idea of an inversely scaled scape really funny:) Although, thinking about a schoal of adult discus or angels would look tiny against the...

IAPLC 2013 - Results are out!

What I've done with this scape is to use an inverse sense of scale. I used Staurogyne as HC, Giant vallis as Lilaeopsis and Bolbitis as Christams moss. So in the final photo it looks exactly like a 60 litre scape thats been growing in for 17 weeks. :D :D

IAPLC 2013 - Results are out!

I've just submitted my entry, was a little surprised when I realised its my 5th time. However, this the 1st time i haven't used a 20litre tank, instead I've entered a 12000litre scape that i've been growing in secret for the last 17 years :D

[CONTEST] UKAPS @ Aquatics Live, Olympia

What a fantastic weekend, hats off to Tom, Jill and their team for putting together such a successful show. To have achieved what they did at launch is testament to their skill as event organisers. The Ukaps presence was, as always, legendary. The superb scapes on the stand from Ed and Tony did...

The Aqueous Art Movement at Art Gallery

Thanks Viktor :D The bulbs used on the 3 cubes were 7watt LED replacements for the GU10 halogen spotlamps. Because they have a fairly narrow beam it meant they could be placed a good height above the tanks without significant loss of PAR. Cheers, James

Thank you Mark :D I'm really glad you are thinking of doing something similar  , I think our excellent hobby/artform deserves to be moved into the public eye wherever possible. If you want any info on how we organised our exhibition e.g compiling mailing lists for invites etc, just...

Keymaker- Thanks for posting that  , you make some very valid and interesting points. Mike - No offence taken mate :D . IAPLC 2010 Results are out

Sorry to correct you Mike, but at no point did i say that the focal point of scape was or was'nt at the centre or whether it mattered. I was simply attempting to suggest that there is a lot more to composition than placing focal points a third of the way along the tank, and that I am much more...

    IAPLC 2010 Results are out

There have been some interesting posts made here. I see your point Peter, the top 100 will be judged by a broader panel, however they will still be subject to IAPLC criteria. Those outside of the top 100 will be judged to some extent by what Mr Amano considers to be good composistion by his own...

    IAPLC 2010 Results are out

I think that the far east and europe have a very different concept of design, and that it is easy for us westerners to unknowingly create something which contradicts the eastern rules of design. Perhaps by studying the principles of Zen gardening and oriental culture in general one could...

Re: Live aquascapes at a London art gallery Fair comment John, i would have loved to have thrown the event open to all UKaps members if I could, but I had to fight tooth and nail just to get the 4 of us accepted. On top of this I don't have the time or skills to coordinate a project of this...

I checked the results pages about a dozen times to look for Graeme Edwards. IMO Graeme is the UKs best scaper, not to have him represent us at contest is nothing short of criminal  If this is another misapplication of the 'unpublished work' rule by an international contest, then I think...

Who's entering the IAPLC 2010 (ADA contest)?

I totaly agree with this ethos, IMO If we design our aquascapes to please the judge's eye rather than our own, then we have lost the reason we started scaping in the first place. I,ve entered mine now BTW. Good luck to eveyone :D . Cheers, James
