Ha, Whitney. I use Flora-base. They have a 'Fine' version and normal. It's the same job as the ADA stuff really just cheaper. http://www.aquaessentials.co.uk/substra ... 2_220.html

Baby shrimp successfully hatched from a dead female!

Re: Baby shrimp successfully hatched from a dead female! Reminds me of the time when I thought my shrimp were gang banging a pregnant female, but on closer inspection they were eating the eggs.

    Hemianthus Callitrichoides 'Cuba'

Easiest way is to leave a bit of the floss on that its planted in the pots with and just and plop it in your substrate in small clumps.

    Dragonfly invasion!

Very similar, just bright green. I've seen about 5 of them, but only have a few blurry photos. Just googled it and found this The green colour with blue tipped tail has me thinking you might indeed be right.
  14. johnski

    Dragonfly invasion!

I just chucked all my stems out and washed a few other plants. I found a nymph when pouring the dregs of the tank into a net the other day, got it in a tub on in the window.
  15. johnski

    Dragonfly invasion!

Here's a slightly less sadistic alternative lol. That's actually the staurogyne I got off you months ago. Notice how insane it grows in a low tech! (not) :|
  16. johnski

    Dragonfly invasion!

Stripped everything down and didn't find a single one. Catching 100's of shrimp is not much fun either! I still haven't caught them all yet and I've been on with it since about 12. Got a boat load of stems and crypts left over, and they look happy in their new setup.
  17. johnski

    Dragonfly invasion!

  23. johnski

    Dragonfly invasion!

Yea I'm gonna strip it all down at the weekend. Nightmare! Excuse the music. It's better than what was coming out of my mouth when trying to catch it.
  24. johnski

    Dragonfly invasion!

I've been finding green dragonfly's flyin about the room for the past few month, but couldn't find anything in the tanks. Until now! I spotted the horrible little thing kind of half out, half in the water in my shrimp tank. I tried to murder it but it swam off. I'm sure I read...

When I first got into this hobby in 2008, my first tank didn't do too well either. It can be incredibly disheartening watching algae slowly ruin your tank when you don't quite have the full knowledge on how to deal with it effectively. Just gotta keep reading and keep at it to reap the full...

    iPhone 5 promo

I had an S3 for a while and I thought the same as you regarding the size, but in all honesty, I got used to the size within a couple days. It's lighter and thinner than an iPhone and most the Blackberry's too, so you hardly even feel it in your pocket.

Something a bit more "meaty" for a 20G

I had xrays a few years back. Nice little fish, but I'm thinkin slightly bigger. Not really an issue, as I can get rid of whats in at the moment. I think a blue dwarf gourami might fit in there nicely with some green neon tetra.
  36. johnski

Something a bit more "meaty" for a 20G

For as long as I can recall, I've had nothing but small/smallish schooling fish and shrimp. So I fancy something with a bit more meat on it. What do you reckon I should drop into my 20G?

Had the 1400 up and running for a few hours now. The flow is rubbish with the spray bar, but if you take it off its actually quite good. I also left the bottom media tray empty bar some floss, to help with the flow. It's much quieter than my Eheim too. Quite pleased so far. Oh...

Agreed mate. I actually started to rescape doing just that after I posted the pics. Except I made it more of a raised cliff kind of style instead of a smooth bank. Not actually got a list of plants yet, as I still need to order a filter, light, co2 reg etc. Gonna upload some pics of how it...

    Parcelfarce Deliveries

They never do that anymore, they just take it back to the depot. I don't actually know me neighbours anyway, and it's 2 boxes worth of stuff, not too sure they'd be happy taking in a strangers mail full of rocks and what not lol.

    30x turnover

Very similar. I can't see properly on your video, but it looks like you have the power head near the bottom of the tank? Pull it up near the top and point it downwards ever so slightly so the plants aren't in direct line of the power heads output, see how that goes.
  76. johnski

    30x turnover

I've got about 1400lph turnover on my 55litre. Even the baby shrimp aren't bothered by it unless they swim right into the power head, then they get a shock lol.

Bit of a rush post before work. Do the inline heaters, atomizers, etc go into the Fluval tubing ok? I'm lookin at gettin a 405 but the tubing looks bigger than standard tubing, not to mention its a weird corrugated plastic, that looks like it has no flex to it. Cheers
