I was reading theplantedtank.co.uk article on algae (http://www.theplantedtank.co.uk/algae.htm) and it was mentioned I can clean vacuum brown algae. the diatoms has form a "sticky" subtrate on the topsoil.
What kind of vaccuum can I use to clean the subtrate. I have a "vaccuum" that I use to...
That side of the tank gets pretty good flow Much better than the other side. Would you recommend a total blackout like what is suggested in theplantedtank.co.uk? My only concern is the discus. Thanks again.
Seems honeymoon's over and I got algae. well 2 sorts of it.
1st (it's not on the glass though it might look like it is):

This one is on the substrate. looks very similar in color to the small spirulina pellets I tried to feed on the discus...
Would the flow rate be reduced if say I have a basketful of substrat/matrix (or any filter material that has an irregular shape and not inside a filter bag) compared to say half-basketful?
I connected a check valve on the co2 inlet so I only need to remove from the check valve side instead of the inlet side.
ps. thanks for the flow rate reply.
apologies for bringing up an old thread but i thought its better than creating a new one :)

Has anyone experience flow rate loss using the reactor? If yes, was it considerable that you noticed it immediately? thank you
and it seems it's a porous rock. I guess the same lines as your porous media like substrat/biomax/matrix/etc EXCEPT that zeolite absorbs ammonia making them more "tasty" for bacteria to colonize and so much more cheaper too (you dont need to buy known brand as its just a naturally occuring...
I'm thinking of buying some 100g of the thing but only planning to decapsulated/hatch around 30g of it.
Is this advisable? Is there some way of storing the capsulated eggs long-term? like perhaps resealing the packaging?
thanks
ps. I've been searching the net but most of the things I see are...
I was looking at an online Shop and came across this. Doi g a net search seems to indicate it's used for water purifying process. From what I understand, zeolite is similar.
Any ideas? Thanks (:
My tank looks like this: http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/18/31958378.png/. I guess I'm "trying" to recreate a flooded plain scene common in countless places in the tropics.
The tank is a 120L (4x2x1.5?). I have C2O equipment (cylinders, diffuser/etc), halide/4xt5 lighting and timer to...
A friend mentioned this place so I thought I'll drop by. Starting on my 1st planted tank. very much a newbie. So please forgive me stupid questions. I do like to research on my own 1st before asking in forums.
