No DSM for these tanks, submerged from the start. Thanks George, aquascaping is pretty small at the moment it's only us and another shop with proper planted displays for the whole state of Victoria. I think in all of Australia there are only about 5 shops that cater to planted tank...

here are 3 60x45x45 cm scapes from where I work. The left side iwagumi tank was done by Marcus, The right side driwtwood scape was done my me and the middle one will be set up shortly by the boss. All tanks are using: Black Earth Premium "normal" Eheim 2215 Fluval Glo dual T5HO Shared...

Here's the CO2 system. A 22kg cylinder hooked up to a reactor.

Update, the tank has been planted for a bit now. foreground is a HC mini pellia mix and background is eleocharis belem, there's some flame moss on the rocks too. inhabitants at the moment are just some shrimp and 2 ottos, i'm still trying to decide on fish...

thanks Nice, i've been thinking about the plants for a while. Its going to have HC, not sure if i should do all HC or have some glosso coming from the top, following the rocks down (possibly belem HG?). mini pelia is going to be in the scape too where the soil meets the sand to stop it falling...

You can buy it at Subscape Aquarium, the shop i work at and where this tank is (if you're in Melbourne, Australia). seiryu stone, mini landscape rock, bonsai rock are other names this type of stone goes by.

the tank's going okay, it had some trouble with thread algae because i didn't water change for a few weeks. i think it's mostly under control now... the hydrocotyle grows so fast, after the last trim it's back thicker than ever: also i added some glosso which is doing really well FTS

water change time again, seeing daily growth on the glosso. stauro is melting a bit but should come back:

Thanks George the wood is from somewhere in the Australian desert not sure about 200? glad to hear you guys like it, after proper measurement the tank its actually 3240L (10ftL x 3ftH x 4ftW) sorry to disappoint! here's some pics from the waterchange today. a 50% waterchange is no small...

here's a teaser iphone shot of one of the new planted tanks at work, its 10ft and about 3400 litres! this one was scaped by the boss not me but i'll be looking after it. it's been up and running for about 1 and a half weeks, more details and pics to come.....

thanks everyone, i'm bringing this tank to work tomorrow for Subscape Aquarium's Re-launch event. It's going to stay there so i can setup a new one at home. Here's a video done with a friend of mine, the music is by me and another mate: much better in 720p

i made this tank really low maintenance now, lighting is only 6hrs. i water change and fertilize about once a month and trim maybe every 3 months. everything is so much easier than before... believe it or not i havnt cleaned the glass pipes in about 3 months.

I went back to give the tank a service today and add some monos. They're not african but they like hard water and are active around the surface. The tank was much cleaner than i thought it would be after a month, those sucking cats are doing their job:

i rescaped a clients tank for african cichlids today, sadly all the plants are artificial but theres still a decent scape in there. this tank is in the boardroom of marketing/design company in melbourne, australia. i don't know all that much about africans, any suggestions on what i should put...

i gave the stems their first trim on Friday, everything's growing nice.... new emergent growth:

i dont spray it at all, the moss just takes up water and keeps itself moist and helps the hydrocotyle by giving it a wet substrate

just java moss and some hydrocotyle, amazon frogbit is floating there too

no CO2 or excel, 50% water change every 2-3 weeks trace and potasium 1 or 2 times per week

its just white silica sand to test out the rocks. heres a pic without the 2 small stones on the sides. better or no?

cheers. filtration will be an eheim 2213, light is a fluval power compact the same one that comes with the flora or ebi. not sure if i'll have CO2 yet, it depends on what plants i decide on using. also not sure if i'll put some aquasoil or just use the sand.

this is a 4X2X2 i setup at work. its fairly new, about a month old i still need to shape the stems.

thats good, so they can grow under the LEDs?

setup one more today so the water is a bit cloudy, iwagumi this time. we'll see how the blyxa does under the stock LEDs, if they struggle i might replace with mini java fern or just more moss.

yep electric toothbrushes are the best for getting in cracks and you dont have to scrub as much so you don't disturb the position of the rocks. background plant is blyxa japonica. the nano tank on the left has a 10w LED floodlight from ebay, that tank is very overgrown at the moment.

thanks, not going to use CO2. excel if it needs it. Eleocharis acicularis grows a bit tall so i'll need to stay on top of trimming. i might replace the staurogyne with more Eleocharis acicularis.

this whole setup was scaped, planted and filled in less than an hour at work. i used 2mm gravel and seiryu stone for hardscape, it might not be perfectly balanced but i did what i could. plants are Eleocharis acicularis and Staurogyne tropica. i took LOTS of pictures: hardscape Eleocharis...

added a 100ml purigen bag last night and the water is free of tannins. a few days ago i introduced some hengelis, otocinclus and RCS. CO2 is via atomizer now.

thats very true sanj, i always struggle to keep the hardscape strong when the plants grow in. i think it mostly comes down to effective trimming but you need to be very careful. with driftwood scape especially, the ones that i like best have a slightly overgrown look. keeping it inbetween...

We just got the new fluval edge 2 were i work. its got twice the volume as the old one with the same footprint which makes it a bit difficult to scape. it also has LED lights which seem a lot better than the halogens, but i still wouldn't say it's a high light tank. i would have liked to create...

this is my new project. a 40cm rimless opticlear cube. eheim 2215 200w hydor inline heater x3 24w t5ho (for now) pressurized co2 EI dosing aeration at night this was my first attempt. it looked really good for a day, then i wokeup the next morning and hated it. for me the rocks looked too...

Re: 60cm iwagumi scape i was getting lots of surface scum so i upgraded from an eheim 2213 to a 2217 so that the lily pipe will make a bigger vortex. its working well and i should have gone 2217 from the start. more pics: here you can see the background mark evans style
