You are welcome! You don't need Tropica growth substrate under Tropica soil. Tropica soil has everything needed in, so you use it on its own. Not sure what fish you have, but if they are bottom dwellers and there is a chance to disrupt the substrate, then use gravel size 2-5mm. Don't use sand...

Some of the new diffusers will produce large bubbles at the beginning, but shortly will start producing only fine mist.

Hi, If the price is the main factor, go for Tropica growth substrate capped with gravel. Will work fine. Good water colomn fertilising and plants will trive. If you can spend the extra cash, go for Tropica soil, Colombo or Amazonia. Much easier to use, results are great, looks very good too...

The manado is not the greatest of substrates...I haven't used it personally but the reports we hear all the time are confirming this. It is definitely disadvantage that it rises the pH. Changing the substrate - to me that means total rescape. It is hard work, but the best way! This will allow...

I have some pinnatifida planted in the substrate (tropca soil) in my new tank and it is already showing nice copper/ brownish colour. And the tank is only 16 days old.

Yep I have started one for the new 45 cm, but need to update it. :) it is called: After the Storm And this weekend I am starting a new 120 and will use an extra hand from George, while down here in Portsmouth for the Seminar in the Local shop ;) So will post updates and new journals, I promise!

Hi, that is Fontinalis antipyretica or willow moss, just hasn't been trimmed for awhile :)

The Tropica ones are great! Also the Fluval nano diffuser. It is black, but creates great mist.

I suppose it is a biggish mine and they have concessions and all the needed licenses to extract from natural source. I don't think it is recycled. It is baked clay/soil mixture. Since most of the soils are coming from Japan, I believe they are all well regulated. The same as brick clay yield etc.

When too much co2 injected in the water, the fish usually are grasping for air on the surface or become lethargic and hide away in the spot with the least current(the lowest concentration of co2).. To me this behaviour looks like a parasite, but not a fish expert. A way to rule out co2 is to...

I think there will be a distribution problem and plants will suffer. Ideally you can use a lily pipe, as the spray bar reduced the flow rate. The other option will be to use a small power head above the atomizer.

That looks promising Evita, love the stones and the composition! The moss ball - usually in the kokedama world, they use some clay to keep it together. But if you have managed to tie the ball, should be ok, as long as you don't move it, replant in it too much.

As Andy said, do water changes every day, for the first 1 or 2 weeks and then providing there are no algae you can reduce them to 1 or 2 a week(30-50%) for a week or so and then go to normal 1 WC a week. The guide by ADA: http://www.adana.co.jp/en/contents/process/index.html Hope this helps...

I have been using shirakura shrimp substrate with great success, also akadama, different mixes with akadama, peat etc adding some ferts with the water, no problems at all. If I were you, I would use the tropica soil. It will get the plants established and growing in no time. No need to add...

Thanks mate! It is classified as an advanced plant in the tropica's catalogue, which means it needs a very good level of light and co2. It will grow easily, but getting it dark orange/ copper coloured ...that is the difficult part ;)

Thanks! I had managed to get some red colours, but was difficult to maintain.. after a trim, they turned green again and had to wait to grow close to the surface to get the colouration again... However I have learnt a lot through that scape, how to run a very powerful light on such a small tank...

It depends what is the foot print of the tank and how high of a slope you are after... But lets say if your tank is 50 cm tall and you want 10cm of a substrate, you will need around 36l

It is a great product, if you are planning of having heavy bottom feeders like crypts or echinodorus. Otherwise you can supply your ferts through the water column without any issues. My current tank has acadama for a substrate(old and very inert by now) and I add all the ferts through the water...

I would personally do a larger amount, as you can be more precise and to get the correct amount of salt. If you do 100mls only, every tenth of a gram less or more, due to a calibration error or human error will affect the solution.

Yep..could be many reasons combined that brought the bacterial bloom...Hopefully with regular maintenance and patience (or UV) the problem will be solved. H2O2 - I wouldn't recommend it. Happened that I killed some fish and shrimps with it in the past... :(

Hi, penthorum is a nice and relatively easy plant. Just trim it really low(leave couple of leaves though) when it is established and replant the top. With regular trimming, adequate light, CO2 and ferts will thrive.

HI Paulo, For aquascaping I would definitely go for open top, as you are dipped in most of the time and the hood will be annoying... You can get LED or just a sit on top fixture. On my 60 cm I am using 2 x boyu fixtures with 3 x14W T5 each. Plenty of light for any plant (84W in total over 54...

Wonderful hardscape! Just not sure if you have thought about maintaining it - scrubbing the stones etc.... especially the top left stones if not properly fixed, will be pain to clean and as they are closest to the light, I presume will be the ones that will need most attention.
