I use to have 60l tank run without any fertilisers co2 with gravel. I had no problem no algaes
I used tap water for water change very soft.
I had a few messy fish with I guest produced enough waste/frerts for plants.
Only problem is that you are quite limited with types of plants you can grow...
Hi George, I've been keeping co2 always at the highest level possible. But at the same time I make sure that there is plenty of oxygen.
To be honest I changed whole method of running my tank. Simply I can't use EI method because it does't work for me.
The main difference between EI and pmdd...
I found sulfuric acid works better (battery electrolyte).
You must monitoring KH level. If you add too much acid and your KH goes to 0, then any more acid will drastically drop ph. Also don't measure ph straight after adding acid as it will always be lower at the beginning due to co2...
I used to have diy mixer like this one and warked exactly the same way.
It warked very well but it wasn't efficient enough for my 200l tank but for 20l will be definitely more than enough.

The reason why I used atomiser was I had one anyway and I wanted to avoid to drill any holes in canister.
Whole idea was to inject co2 trough atomiser which produces micro bubbles and go to reactor where they stick to bioballs and slowly dissolve.
I had I alternative idea to use T connector...
1. Hoses are 16/22mm
,Ports are 3/4"
2. Carnister is 10"
3. O bough it all in Poland but saw this carnisters on ebay.
Only thing you won't be able to get are those velves.

I clean my atomizer using 100% bleech to remove organic dirt then I use vinegar to desolve any calcium builded up.
I works very well.

It probably does reduce flow a little bit but not much.
One good think about it so far is that I don't have sparky water in tank anymore which is good becouse it looked cloudy.
I reduced co2 to 2 bubbles per second as I noticed that angels started breathing faster.

Hi there
Due to my problem with algae, I decided to build more efficient co2 system to make sure I have got no more issues with lack of co2 in my tank.
This is my baby.
I put Atomizer before reactor.
What do you think?
In a past I sacrificed one external filter to make very efficient co2 reactor.
I filled fiter media with bio balls and thick sponge and placed the atomizer before the filter.
It worked very well.

Plutonow your tank it looks really stunning.
Tell us more about the way of fertilising. What is "toby's reception"?
Do you use tap water?
Regards.

At the beginning I was running 4 t5 with reflectors, at the moment I lowered to the minimum which is 2 tubes without reflectors. I reduced period from 10 to 6 hours.
