Couldn't agree more. Much prefer salvinia natas. Floats way better and can handle strong flow

I had the <"same problems with them">. A lot of people <"have done much better">, so it is definitely sub-optimal growing conditions.

Gotta love those reds though...

Try a <"bit more nitrogen (N)">?

Duckweed ! ... Given how resilient and successful if kept unchecked it is, I am not sure it actually qualifies as stupid ... If you have a lot of other floating plants (such as Frogbit), or plants that grows partially emerged, duckweed is very, very hard to get rid of. For me at least, it definitely takes a price in the nuisance category alongside algae

The examples below aren't aquatic, but surely Darwinian evolution can't explain all of them. Maybe the best evidence there is for a holographic universe, or even a computer simulated reality. Or perhaps nature has a warped sense of humor. Or the perceived weirdness of some can be explained by plain old pareidolia 😁

Might that be the dreaded algae monster?

He appears out of the blue from the fifth or sixth dimension (depending on what version of string theory is in fashion) when your maintenance is inadequate or you just have unexplained plain bad luck
