A few months ago I posted pics of some wild altums in a local shop, and now these have turned up.
I've been looking for some nice angels for quite some time and finally found 3 juvenile, nice, silver angels last weekend.

If I'd found these first, I'd probably have bought them.

I do like wild type angels.
I've nothing against all the koi, lace, zebra, blushing etc, but wild types always grab my attention.

Can’t be the body shape on a wild angel compared to the hybrid domestics. I find a lot of domestics are large in the body but have short/poor fins. That’s not to say there isn’t good domestics out there.

You could always mix the nannays with the domestics after a decent quarantine procedure. I’d say three isn’t an ideal number for any cichlid so you may want to up your numbers regardless. What size tank is it?

I agree. Body proportions and fin length/shape seem lacking in alot of tank bred fish. I see alot of home bred stock in shops that should probably have been culled.

I'd have bought 5 of the ones I have, but only 3 were any good.
I did consider mixing but mine are about 1.5" and these are 4.5" so didn't think It wise.

My 3 are currently in quarantine but will go in my 200l tank.
People say 200l is ok for 5, but I'm not so sure. I think my plan is to maybe end up with a pair. Not really to breed, although I may, more just so I can have more than 1 but with less fighting.
I've read 2 males would probably be ok too though.
3 isn't a great number. It's ok at the moment though. If I find any more, I'll buy them. But ultimately, I'll probably be thinking just a pair in this tank long term.

This is my 3.
The pale one isn't quite as nice. It isn't normally pale but is easier spooked than the other 2. Eats greedier though.
They ha e only been here a couple of days though.20221020_174211.jpg20221020_174056.jpg

I've seen better, but these were the best I've seen in shops for a long time

The same shop with the nanays had a tank full of silver's a bit bigger than mine, but none were very nice so didn't buy any.

If I can rustle up some space for more tanks I may try breeding some good quality silver's, or maybe some F1 wilds, or maybe cross some wild blood into some decent domestic stock.
I don't know.
Just seems to be a lack of this kind of Angel, and considering they have been a favourite hobby staple for so long, it's a shame.

Mine have a bit of a blue sheen. Not much, but made me wonder if they were good shaped cast offs from a breeding program trying to get good blues.
