i've decided to stock up on my plants in the tank. i currently have:
- straight vallis of varying sizes some doing better than others hence why im after more (i was hoping to get them to stem off but no such luck despite large amounts of ferts
- two swords (that were struggling from nutrient deficiency but recently changed ferts to help think they recovering now),
- cambomba (which is sparce on leaves but im going to adapt my co2 system so its producing more and that should solve that)
- Brazilian pennywort
- moss ball
-amazon frogbit
-water lettuce
- as well as my two surviving Staurogyne Repens (the only two survivors of my lazy attempts of growing the plants, i've had two batches which both suffered heavily from algae attacks- brown and a little staghorn if im looking at it correctly and poor maintenance)

i've always suffered bad from brown algae and i'm going to tackle it more diligently from now on, thankfully its just gone for the carpeting plants and none of the others. but as im looking at getting more Staurogyne Repens im also looking at dwarf hairgrass which i considered when first thinking of carpeting plants. which would be best suited to my tank or could you recommend another.

ferts: 'simply macro' and 'simply micro' coupled with TNC plugs
lighting: 9x0.2 led lights on for 7 hours
CO2: DIY CO2 system, none pressurised unsure of levels of dosing (say its low levels for arguments sake) have two 1 litre generators soon to change to two 2 litre generators

oh yhea its a 40 litre tank with high flow rate filter pushing 450l/h in a spray bar, lighting period can also be increased but will need to be advised on if you just do it or slowly have more of a lighting period over a few weeks

Given your parameters, I'd pick something like Hairgrass. I don't think HC or Glosso would do very well.

If I went for hair grass would I e able to keep it relatively short with trimming or would it damage the plant too much, tropica says it grows 20-40 cm but I'd want to keep it around 5-10 cm

I'm having some look with cryptocoryne pygmy but parva works as well. It's not demanding and if you have patience does a nice carpet. Plant, let it grow, break it up into smaller planet-lets then re-plant. Takes some time but grows exponentially.

You could try some Marsilea species as well.

i think the most ascetically pleasing is the hairgrass, i'd probably not plant it as a full carpet but as a transition plan to taller ones at the back or even to frame the bogwood and around the rocks i have in there, but again i'd keep it much shorter would it manage with being cut to that height?

what drew me to repense in the first place is that i wanted a low bushy plant to have in the front and centre of my tank to make that open space look a little less blank is there anything else of a similar nature which is less demanding ??

Oo that looks good especially if it stays short I shall have a good Google and look into it. Lovely colour on Google images like 🙂 good suggestion thanks for the help guys really appreciate it
