Hi all,

I might be having a bit of a moment but what is the difference between the chirios aquasky and the chirios A series.

I can see that one kicks out 7000k and the other does 8000k.

I cant seem to get my head around why the 7000k one is more expensive though?

Any ideas?? Also any recommendations on a decent light that's no more than £50.

I think whether it is 7000k or 8000k is irrelevant when it comes to the price. It is the colour temperature of the light. People often advise lights around 6500k for planted tanks, but plants don't care. It only matter what colour temperature you prefer on your tank. The higher the Kelvin value, the cooler the light.

Difference between the two in price, I think, is down to aesthetics - Aquasky is a copy of ADA light, and A-series looks cheaper, but it is a personal preference - and Aquasky uses 0.5W LEDs, but A-series uses 0.3W LEDs.

In late November, I ordered Chihiros A-Series A601 from Hinterfeld http://www.hinterfeld.com/uk-chihir...-lamp-12-39w-plant-fish-shrimp-light-20-60cm/
I ordered it from their UK warehouse, paid £46, and it arrived within a week.

It comes with an intensity controller included. As I have a low tech, liquid carbon tank, I have it on around 60% for now. I expected the colour temperature to be cooler, but I think it is quite warm. Although, my newly set up tank has a tannin-leaching driftwood in it, so I cannot judge it properly. I also don't have much experience with aquarium lights. I like it so far, and would buy it again. More importantly plants like it too.

The only think that worried me was buying it from an unknown company. I paid with PayPal so wasn't worried about its delivery and any initial problems, but if it develops any fault in the next six months, I am not sure what help I can count on from Hinterfeld.

Well I've just ordered the 30cm version of the a series. My light I have atm is the leddy that comes with the aquael shrimp setups which isn't that great for a high tech setup. I have monte carlo and it's growing up as opposed to carpeting. I've upped my light period with no joy so needs must in a better light!

I did read somewhere on here a review on this light unit. It has loads of brill feedback so this just backs my desision more 🙂

this equates to significant cost differences in the manufacture - it's always good to know actual LED manufacture (some have a rather high rate of failure)
Also look for 50 000 hour guarantee
Note that Chr* in the past was not good at international warranty on light units with failed LED's, hopefully this has improved under the Hinterfield Shop name - certainly with a warehouse (commitment) in the UK, I'd expect decent warranty service within the UK 😉

Spectra does make a difference to plant growth, plants will compensate to available spectra ... depending on other environmental conditions this may or may not be an observed determining factor 🙂
