What is this media bio or mechanical?

I got this media somehow and wondering what brand it is and is it bio or mech?
Anyone came across this earlier?

These around 8mm balls, rings are 8mm long and 6mm in dia approximately

They are very compact when thrown in the basket and traps dirt effectively I believe...

Hi!
It depends of the porosity of the media not of the shape of it. Shape may be different but the structure defines what it does.
So, is difficult to say after the pictures. But, many external filters cames with balls in first basket, suggesting it have both purposes.
The rings are more close to bio than to mach. Try and brake one of each and see what structure is in section.

Edit : Ex. MicroMec from JBL looks like balls but are sinthetic glass and work both as bio and mechanical distruction of vegetal particles when arrive in the filter.
