What’s this strange bacteria/algae?

I have a planted tank set up in December, started with a dark start for a month, and planted it with CO2 at the start of January. I added livestock a week later.

Four days ago, I had a diatom outbreak, which I expected with a new setup. But two days ago, I noticed a strange, paper-like algae that appeared overnight. It hasn’t come back since—it was like a one-time thing. My fish and shrimp seem completely unaffected.

Tank Parameters:
• Temp: 22°C
• GH: 8, KH: 4
• Water parameters have been stable and fine.

Any idea what that paper-like algae could have been and should I be concerned?

Hi Owen. Quite often on some new woods - particular those lighter woods like manzanita/river wood - you get a fungal type growth in the early stages. Shrimp will usually eat it and once its gone I don't think it comes back.

As it has cleared up, and everything else is fine, I wouldn't worry. Just keep doing your water changes etc.
