Whale Sharks

Yep, it was a fantastic holiday, only blighted slightly by me getting mauled by Mexican midges on the first day and ending up with cellulitis requiring anti-b's which kind of put an end to all the free piña-coladas for a week. They got me on the last day as we'll just so I'd remember them on the flight home, lol. My only regret is that I didn't have an underwater housing to use with my D800E to take the above footage. Trying to get a steady shot of anything in the water using something the size of a fag packet while swimming full tilt to keep up is not an easy task.

🙂

🙁 Real shame about the midges. Even though your camera wasn't perfect (seemed good enough to me😉) you still managed to achieve some stunning footage! Get well soon, if you haven't already recovered.

I recovered after a few days thankfully. Yeah the camera (Nikon AW100) did a good enough job but it was touch and go to be honest as I had been battling with a minute amount of water ingress all week that when the camera warmed up due to use underwater the temperature difference over the lens caused internal fogging, massive pain in the backside, it also ruined a good shoot when I went paragliding, caused by reduced air temperature and pressure whilst dangling high up in the air. Had to cook the camera in direct sunlight with the door open and a silica sachet in the battery compartment the day before I did the whale sharks, and crossed my fingers that one battery would last the shoot without me having to crack the door open that I had sealed up with beeswax for double measures (so glad I brought that with me).

Thanks for sharing, amazing creatures one of my favourites.🙂
