Weeping Moss

Hi Guys,

Sorry another question from this noob...

I've got a CO2 injected system. 2x T5 37 Hi Light Day Light tubes giving the tank light - its a 180L tank but I suspect (with the additional bits and pieces) its around 165/170L.

Now all seem to be doing well... generally. My ludwigia has grown hugely, but some strands are struggling - this may be circulation which will be soon fixed by a powerhead.

I've got two sets of weeping moss glued on - the problem is its turning brown. One set turned brown, i trimmed it down and it seems to be coming back okay. Ive trimmed the other set but it doesn't seem to be doing well - it's directly under the T5 lights but has good direct access to flow and CO2.

What shall I do?

I'm soon going to start dosing (tomorrow!) with TNC complete.

Many Thanks
Alex

Could be the temperature? How high is it?

I have 2 x T5 35w Hi Lite Daylight tubes with reflectors...

Is this too much?? :/ the moss is quite close to it tbh at the top of the tank. I was wanting it to grow down.

Will it recover?

I can't be sure about the lights, as I've always used LEDs... but there are other factors to consider.

Melting - if the moss was grown emersed, it may melt when placed under water. If this is the case, it should recover after some time. Since you say it recovered well after some trimming, I would say this is the most probable cause.

Water quality - High water hardness or low nutrients may cause the moss to go brown. If you don't make changes it will most likely die off.

light shouldn't be the issue, grown mine outdoors over the summer 😉

Are you dosing? Regular water changes?

Dumb question maybe..how much did you glue? did you say glue more than 90% of it? i.e covered most of moss in glue?

I do need to do another water change tbh. its overdue!

I started to dose TNC complete yesterday for the first time. I dosed about 24ml as opposed to 18ml - give the plants a kick start. Thereafter, dosing once a week at 18ml.

Yup quite a bit of the moss is glued... not quite 90% - but a fair chunk.
