Wave maker choices

Hello all

Can anyone suggest a good wave maker for a 250l tank. The cheap one I bought started vibrating badly after an hours use. Taking it apart I have worked out why as its very poorly designed. I am a production engineer so some of the mouldings are shocking to what I'm used to. I want something to replace it to keep the flow up as the filter I have doesn't have enough flow rate. It came off a tank half the size. Looking at the price of some wave makers I could buy a second filter cheaper. As small impellor and some housing I can't see the justification on the prices of some of them. If I'm going to spend the money I want to know they are quiet and perform well by someone recommending it to me.

This may be the better option depending on your setup. It also offers more redundancy should one of your filters fail for any reason.

I'd have to upgrade to one large filter as thr cabinet doesn't have enough holes in it for another set of pipes. It's annoying as I don't like redundant equipment. Time for a 5th tank? I'll be killed if I setup another. I'm on a 4 tank limit by my partner. He already complains I spend too long on them.

They always say they’ll kill you if you get another tank… but how are they going to get to you when there’s so many tanks to hide behind…

Safety with numbers @Kevin Eades 😂

On the matter of powerheads… Sicce and Koralia offer relatively affordable and effective conventional powerheads. For a gyre wave maker, Maxspect are great but pricey.

Now you have reminded me of the term powerhead and not wave maker it's opened up a load of opportunities. Thank you I knew there must be cheap options. The eheim 650 powerhead is taking my fancy. I like their kit normally designed well and not too bad of a price. I also like the intake pipe I think I can protect this if I want to put shrimp in the tank much easier. I am envious of that fish room. The only room in the house I could make a fish room is upstairs study and I wouldn't trust the floors to hold that much weight. I was convinced my 250l tank was gunna go through our floors downstairs as they are not concrete. It's still there so all OK 👍

Eheim is a good shout. Should have been on that list. Have no idea what it is you specifically want to achieve but there’s plenty of options for shifting water.

That’s just a screen grab @Kevin Eades FYI

If that was to be built in this house, would pretty much guarantee yours truly would be on the ‘missing’ persons list 😂

Do any powerheads have a metal shaft anymore? I keep breaking the ceramic ones....
