As per title, I cut out a piece of those anti slip mat to stuck it into my hang on back filter to create a sort of extension for the water to flow into the tank smoothly without creating sound.

The mat seems to be some rubber foam material, just wondering will there be any damage to the tank in terms of such materials being used?

I can't say if it's made of the same material but I've heard of two different people that were able to trace their saltwater problems to these kind of mats. Saltwater might play a factor in the rapid degradation of the material but it became a massive problem for the livestock (many corals died as did motile inverts and a few fish).
I'd personally err on the side of caution and swap it for something you know is inert. Plastic knitting mess is a possibility and it's been used in aquatics for many years without issue.
