Not sure if this is of any importance maybe @dw1305 will know about any potential harmful chemicals that could be used.

Anyways UU are cleaning the pipes in the following areas today.

Pipe refreshing and cleaning work

In February 2021 we began a programme of overnight work which involves our teams moving across the region in phases.

Week commencing Sunday 14 November we'll be working in the following areas:

Altrincham, Blackburn, Blackpool, Bolton, Bury, Carnforth, Cheadle, Colne, Dalton-in-Furness, Darwen, Golbourne, Irlam, Keswick, Macclesfield, Manchester, Oldham, Poulton-le-Fylde, Stockport, Tameside, Trafford, Warrington and Wigan.

I would probably avoid using it as water change water until they've finished in your area. <"High pressure flushing and air scouring"> shouldn't cause any problem, but if they find that the integrity of the water main is compromised, they will use emergency chloramine dosing until that section of the main is replaced.

Our water board seems to do this once a year and they always send out a letter first which gives more details of the process (which I can't remember), it also states "run the taps for several minutes before using any water".
