Hi everyone,

I wonder if you can help me here. When I sold my marine tank I got rid of all the ecotech pumps etc and in their stead bought a Tunze 6095 for my short lived cichlid tank were on the lowest setting it worked fine 2000 litres an hour.

I currently have a Juwel Rio 350 which is approx 4ft long by 26 high and 20 wide from memory. Does anyone have any advice on whether this is too much flow in a fully planted C02 setup. I know I could try it and it may look fine but I'm just not sure.

Filtration wise I'm running an Ehein Pro4+ 600 so it's output is rather modest compared to what I'm used to in a reef. But again in a planted tank i could be totally wrong.

Comments welcome.

You will often here people point towards 10x tank turnover per hour in a planted tank which I think is a good rule to look towards but you also need to distribute that flow evenly.
The Juwel Rio 350 I believe is 350 litres and from what I can read about your Eheim Pro4+ 600 the pump power is 1250 LPH; I'm unable to find the flow rate.
Assuming your filter was getting all of the 1250 LPH this alone would be quite under rated if you are to follow the 10x rule.
Another thing to bare in mind here as an example is the Fluval G6 has a pump power of 2460 LPH but only has a flow rate of 1000 LPH which is quite a difference which if your filter had anything like this drop then that would be seriously under rated.

The Tunze 6095 is a nice, small powerhead which you can adjust both position and power and has a maximum flow of 9,500 LPH which if you can use it well would be more than enough but whether you can use that flow wisely is the question; one that can only be answered in part buy how you have your aquarium laid out.

Whether any of this helps or not, I'm unsure. 😵

Thanks Andrew,
No flow rates given on the Eheim but given what you have said I think I will give the pump a go at its lowest setting and keep an eye on things for a few days adjusting its position as necessary.
