What is the best way of trimming stems?

I believe a lot (most?) Stem plants will split into two stems if trimmed which would make them more bushy but the bottom of the plants is normally the poorest looking part.

I have read about trimming them just above an internode and letting the plant regrow but also about trimming, removing the bottom section and replant the cutting.

I have bacopa, rotala and limnophila.

Any recommendations on the best way to trim?

on the three plants mentioned, Black Current Method works very well.
Let group of stems grow to a bit more than wanted hight - then cut the tallest 1/3 of the stems at a low point, leaving the stubs - choose a couplw of the healthiest off-cuts - cut to desired lenght, remove lowest leaves and re-plant in group.
Let group of stems grow, until group is again a bit over desired hight - cut next 1/3 of tallest stems, leaving stubs - re-plant a few off-cuts as per last time.
Let group re-grow until a bit over desired height - cut last 1/3 of tallest stems - re-plant a few.
- and let group re-grow, cut 1/3 .............and procedure goes on and on......
This way your group of stems will be virile and good-looking at all times.
