Hi, I am growing some Taiwan moss and I think that it is ready for its first trim. The longest pieces are about an inch long, here is a pic: 114.jpg

do you think it needs a trim?

and how long should i trim it to?

cheers

The more you trim it the more compact and healthy it will look, so it all depends on the effect you are after 😉

thanks guys, it's been on the wood a few months, but the tank didn't have ferts, and it was growing from nearly dead bits that had been half eaten by my SAE's and then left for months dried out on the inside rim of the tank, so it started off slowly.

i gave it a trim, and took off the string, and it has attached itself really well. i put a little more string on, as i used some of the trimming to fill in the gaps.

cheers 😀

Its looking very good considering some of the rough treatment, whatever you re doing is working. A trim once a month should keep it looking nice and dense.

thanks, it is starting to grow back after it's first trim. the left over moss is still loose in the tank, but i'm going to try to attach it to the filter, as i find it quite ugly. it's been suggested that i stuff it in the gap between the filter and the glass at the front and let it grow across. will that work? also, would it be possible to get it to attach to the glass itself (just out of interest)?

cheers 😀

Not sure about that, may depend on the texture of the filter, moss tends to attach to rough surfaces a lot better than smooth ones, not sure what filter you have, but you could try attaching it to the filter with fishing line..... if that is practical?!

Cant see the moss attaching to the glass unless you have something to hold it in place, I dont know if this gives you any ideas?!
