I re-scaped my tank a couple of months ago and thought that I would try a carpet of Staurogyne. I have had success with Tropica S. Repens before, but over 2 months I have had almost no growth from Aquafleur S. Rubescens. I have never had to prune them, something I had to do regularly with the tropica species. While they have lost several leaves from fish nibbling them, there remain enough for them to photosynthesise and recover, in theory. Most of the other plants in the tank have done well (though Vallis Nana did not take off). I was wondering whether this plant is different in requirements to S. Repens.

Otherwise I realise it is most likely down to inadequate Co2 distribution, though I have done all I can to optimise it. The plants are not in a flow deadspot and I have pressurised CO2 through a diffuser into a 900lph powerhead with 2x Eheim 2217 in a 180 litre tank. Turning up the CO2 has caused the fish to struggle a bit, so it is about as high as I can get. I have 2x 45W T5 tubes for 5hrs a day and use EI ferts.

Any input is gratefully received.

Hi
I would increase your lighting period gradually to 7 hours a day.
5 hours is okay for new setups.
Go with that and see how the plants respond.
Cheers

I to was looking at doing this in my nano set ups... I was lead to believe they are low tech plants? or not low tech but will do fine as they adapt to the conditions? is this true??
