I bought this pair of appistogramma a while back sold as viejita but looks very similar to macmasteri (possible even redmasked)

Please help as want to put the debate to bed. And have a true I.d.

Thanks

Hi all,
They are nice, it looks like your female is in spawning colours in the second photo. @shangman has just raised some fry from hers.
I would say Macmasteri
They are definitely the "Rostrich" form of Apistogramma macmasteri.

Have a look at <"Apistogramma Forums: macmasteri or viejita">. I'd guess that it is about the most frequent ID question asked on there.

cheers Darrel

Yes to me they look like Apistogramma Macmasteri "Red Mask", male and female, definitely in breeding colours too which is why they're both so gorgeously colourful. Keep an eye on them with the corydoras, there are lots of reports that breeding apistos don't get along with corydoras, who don't understand the apistos protective aggressive behaviour.

I raised the fry and made a kind-of documenting post about it <here>, let me know if you want any advise on raising babies or anything :)
