I'm looking at options for surface skimmers.

I've noticed quite a few on here use the Eheim 350, but I'd prefer not to have another bit of equipment in the tank if I can avoid it.

Any one have experience or opinions of the JBL top clean II to replace a standard inlet .....or any other inlet replacements?

what are the pro's & cons of each type?

Why do you need a surface skimmer? If it's bio-film, you're probably better off with an airstone.

If you use an external filter, you can replace your input with one that has a surface skimmer in it. Have a look on Hinterfeld's website.

Persistent surface scum is a sign something is wrong with plant health. Better to fix the health issues thane use a skimmer.

Got an air stone, which runs only when lights off (didn't make much different with lights on)

Not really scum, barely an oily film, and seems to only be noticeable after a few hours of CO2 & lights being on....more of a 'thickness' to the surface tension of the water really, think it is due to the frozen food

Plants seem healthy, CO2 is always light green at lights on since running air stone only at night

I ordered the JBL one last Sunday, and it arrived earlier in the week ....so I'll see how it goes
