Following on from this thread http://www.ukaps.org/forum/threads/one-or-two.36675/#post-394688 I'd like to pose another question tank wise.

Is 40cm enough for good fish choice and planting both underwater and emergent on a long tank?

I assume you're talking about 40cm depth! The only fish choice its going to limit you in are the "tall" species like angels or discus. For emersed plants, plenty has been done shallow- "bucket o' mud" and "little box of chocolates" featured journals. Also the "pekoe pond," although not a shallow tank in terms of length-to-height ratio, its only 40 litres so cant be more than 40cm.
