Hello everyone
My little tank (dooa system aqua 30, 27 liters with 18 liter swim space) has become packed with Bloody Mary shrimp and their activity is reducing.
The 10 original Bloody Mary shrimp became around 60+
Most of the shrimp have started hiding during the day and then swarm the tank at night.
The ones that are out during the day are not really grazing like they used to and sometimes seem to stop moving for hours.
I have not seen a scrap of algae in the tank since last maintenance, 10 days ago.
I’m wondering if I should feed more but I don’t really want to promote more breeding.
Tank also has a beta that leaves the shrimp alone and a nerite snail.
Tank is 6 months old.
Temp 27degrees.
RODI water with ATP sky remineralisation to 7dgh (36ppm ca & 10pm mg).
Substrate is ADA Amazonia.
Ferts is APT Zero dosed daily.
CO2 to lime green.
Seachem Excel at half daily recommended dose.
Airstone.
Light Onf nano at 90% (lid is 12mm glass) for 9 hours a day.
Frogbit looking healthy.
All plants growing well except java fern.
Maintenance is 30% water change per week.
Feed is a rotation of Glassgarten Bacter AE, Shrimp fit, mineral junkey, shrimp baby & dinner pads for shrimp and assorted (7 brands) pellets for the beta.
Any thoughts on activity reducing in shrimp following population boom.
