Quiet nano hob

Hi all,

I recently purchased a 250lph hob from eBay, smart looking little nano; and does the job, perfect for aquascaping as it's clear plastic. The only downside is that the impeller is very noisy, even having applied Vaseline to it. Can anyone recommend a replacement? I tried looking for the azoo palm filter or mignon 60 as it's called, but have only seen it at much higher prices.

Current filter cost around a fiver, bargain aside from noise!

I have it too and do not experience it beeing noisy.. It actualy is very quiet.. Only thing i did is take a small piece of aquarium underlay foam and bended it over the glass edge as padding between glass and filter so the filter is padded.. Because i heard a little humming noisy at night if it hangs straight to the glass.

For me this thing does a perfect job on a 25 liter tank.. 🙂 Have nothing to complain about..

Yes it's the same one only i got a size smaller 120 lph. Vaseline wont help, these pumps are lubricated and cooled by the water. See if it is clean, a sand particle can cause it to go out of balance and make noise.. Adding grease only attracts more dirt and sticks to it.. So putting greasy stuff in there works counter productive.

have you tried both sizes? 🙂 I ordered the 120 lph version, and will also try the foam trick; I added a little bit of plastic padding the other day and it helped, so I can imagine actual foam will be superior 😀

No not yet, but maybe will, for my next setup.. Not sure yet if i'm going to use 2 x 120 liter or 1 x 250 liter. Depends on the scape and be the last thing to worry about.

The 250 liter will surely run faster, could indeed be more noisy because of that when it hangs straight to the glass.. The foam realy helps damping that humming noise. In my case it was the vibration to the glass and not the impeler itself making that noise. 🙂
