Hi everyone!!
I'm using the Proscape Plant Soil.
When I set up the tank I followed the instruction on the package which was saying to clean the soil lightly. Once I filled the tank with water It turned the water really black. Is that normal? Do clean the soil before putting it in the tank ? Or you don't clean it at all ?
Cheers Giorgio

I didn't rinse mine. I lay it in then slowly fill the tank with water, probably the lazy way right enough, and you get air pockets that way

Hi Giorgio, I've used the pro soil on top of the volcano mineral as JBL recommend and didn't suffer black tank water as such.
But I did get heavy black staining of the sponges on my internal Juwel filter.
They were as black as coal and quite useless as a base for filter bacteria on my new tank set up.
A thorough clean and a couple of water changes soon settled things down.
I don't know what caused the issue, maybe it was a dye or something used in the manufacturing process reacting with a chemical in my tap water?, but it doesn't last and is easily rectified with water changes.
