Properly installing dual stage regulator

Hello,

I just received a new dual stage regulator from Co2Art. I looked up the manual on their website but it's not completely clear to me how I should set it up. Especially their warning about damaging the (display of) the gauges. So I would like to hear from the people here that have the same regulator how I need to install it.

How about the working pressure knob and the needle valve when opening the co2 bottle valve? Should they be open or closed? Thank you very much in advance.

I close the main valve on my sodastream adapter, screw everything together tightly - using spanners where possible on the main connections to the gas bottle and regulator. I then open the main valve fully and open the needle valve fully. Nothing will happen yet (other than a brief sound of gas) as the solenoid should be in the closed position.

I then plug the solenoid into the power and then immediately close the needle valve while the gas is rushing out. You lose a tiny bit of Co2 this way but the sudden surge of gas won't damage the delicate internals if you control it like this. As far as I understand it anyway.
This is just the way I do it. Maybe I'm being overly cautious.

Edit: After that, I set the working pressure (blue knob) to about 40 and set the needle valve to where I get the right amount of bubbles.
I think there is a video tutorial on YouTube or on Co2art site.

You want to back off the supply pressure knob till it feels sort of loose ( no tension from the spring.. Bottle valve off of course.
Attach red to bottle..
Open bottle valve.. supply pressure gauge should be zero at this point .
Solenoid off, needle valve ...well sort of optional.
Anyways you have decisions based on what you are pumping CO2 into.
A diffusion disk or in line diffuser that requires like 35 psi or a reactor that just needs like 10psi or so.
The " Milwaukee way" when using diffusion discs primarily.
Open the needle valve all the way. Outlet pressure is still zero
Engage solenoid.
Open outlet pressure adjusting it higher until you get bubbling out of the diffuser
Note it takes some time for pressure to work it's way down..
Now when you have a full stream on the disc ( some also require a break in period) you now use the needle valve to change your bubble rate.

For a reactor I'd probably set it at 10lbs and be done with it. Then adjust needle valve to my target bubble rate.

Bottom line..except for shocking the outlet gauge the rest is a bit err whatever .

Ymm ..
