I bought new plants from my lfs (easy grow). However the roots of the dwarf hair grass are getting brown after the week.. Any reasons for this?. Are the plants gonna survive?
Need more information...are the plants in you tank or not?...is your tank low-tech?....do you "feed" your plants?.....how much/ how long light?....and so on
Photo would help too
How Martin said we need more info. Please include what substrate you have how old and deep it is. If you use soil substrate and make it too deep you can end up with anaerobic substrate which "poison" the roots and makes them turn brow / black.
Sorry guys..🙂
Im new to a planted aquarium and dont know much about it.
But heres what info I got from the LFS.
It is just black sand (sorry they didnt say anything else)
I put api root tabs in the sand.
2wpg lighting for 8 hours.
I dose easycarbo daily.
Dose King british plant food once a week as per the instructions.
The LFS guy said Eleocharis parvula is an easy grower under those circumstances.
I had to replant them as I didnt do a good job of planting them the first week I got them and was concerned as the roots went from white to brown..
I have replanted them now in hope they wont die out🙁
Once again sorry guys I have very limited knowledge about this stuff so any advice will help me!
Lower your light by two hours (5 to 6 hours of light is enough for the beginning)...take a look at your water circulation....if you have active carbon in your filter it's better to add some more plant food for a while ...and do a water change of 50% or more every week.
Eleocharis parvula can sometimes have a slow start. Usually I cut of at least half of it's roots before planting, this encourages new root growth.

Hi mate,
Id more than likely put it down to your plant food as it doesnt contain any nitrates phosphates etc which your plants really need. Its just feeding them trace elements. Your dosing liquid carbon therefore increasing the demand on the plants so they need their food to keep growing
You want an all in one fertilser like the ones our sponsors sell in these links http://www.aquariumplantfood.co.uk/fertilisers/apf-liquid-plant-nutrition.html
Thanx Martin and Alastair!
I didn't know that the roots get brown due to lack of nutrients. I thot root tabs sorted every thing🙂 I gotta learn a lot!
Will buy that product later this month wen I get paid🙂
Hi guys,
Sorry been away for a few days.
I have one more basic question...
Where can I buy EI fertilisers from?
Is it the same as the link Alistair sent from the sponsors?
I tried searching my LFS but they said check online.
Really sorry to bother all of you with basic questions.
no bother.....you can buy from our sponsor....I buy it here online from a local chemical factory, one of the benefits of living in China, they are not so fussy about chemicals😉
