I today bought some King British aquarium peat. What is the best way to use it ,but not as a substrate? Should I soak it and add the liquor or put it in the filter in a bag.I want the colour and the benefits without lowering the ph too
much.
What do you want to use the peat for - Fish breading or to improve plant growth?
I used to use aquarium peat in old nylon stockings which I put into the filter. I did this to condition the water for breeding soft water tetras.
I probably would not do this again though as I think it could reduce the flow of the filter unnecessarily and the decaying peat would also reduce the levels O2 in the water column. These days I would tend to add it to the soil layer of my tank as a carbon source for plants/soil bacteria and use rain water to soften/condition the water.
