I have a 186l Waterbox 3620 and before we moved and my planted tank got turned upside down, I used it with a Fluval 307. Now it sits empty with all the fish in a temporary tank.
The Fluval has a flow rate of 1150 l/h (303 g/h) which theoretically means it turns my water 6.2 times over every hour. The first time I turn it on I remember seeing my plants sway a lot and for a while I wasn’t sure if the filter was too strong, but once the plants grew and filled in it seems to be good.
After my experience with my new Oase 250 Biomaster Thermo I cannot go back to my Fluval. Love the integrated heater, no need for a clumsy external heater (Hydor) or one in my tank taking up space. Also that pre-filter is giving me ‘Empty Nest Filter Cleaning Syndrome’. I must have opened that filter at least 3 times just to check and clean and instead I’m greeted with a clean filter inside
So my dilema is do I get the 350 or 600?
Fluval - 303gph/6.2 1150lph/6.2 6.2 G/L Average
350 - 300gph/6.1 1100lph/6.0 6.0
600 - 350gph/7.1 1250lph/6.9 6.9
Oase has a guide of which filter to buy, but I’m worried that with an extra 50g/150l the current in that tank is going to be too strong. They say get the 600 if it is a heavy fish load and 350 if it’s a medium fish load.
My fish are Panda Cories, Chipmunk Loaches, Rasboras, and maybe some other small schooling fish.
