Hi all, long time no see...

We've just got an Eheim Classic 2217, and have a couple of questions for anyone who has one. Are they all reeeeally noisy? You can hear it buzzing in the next room. It also sounds like there's some trapped air in there, but I can't see any way to get rid of it - I've shaken it up a bit and it manages to turn itself off occasionally, but no air comes out.

Having never owned an eheim (but had tetratec, fluval, rena etc etc) I'm assuming the classic is just a bare bones box and pipes, as there is no way to prime it, or even taps to lock the flow when you do maintenance. Looks like you just have to unscrew it and hope for quick reactions and only minor spillages... or am I missing something?

Anyone fed up with theirs?

Could be the impeller gone?

Sometimes when you do a filter change I fill up with water and tip it upside down a few times to release any air bubbles.

But I normally cover the filter with a towel and I can just hear a small humming noise at the most.

You shouldn't really have to cover the filter in a towel to be able to hear the TV... And no, there's definitely no air in it and the Impellar is fine - it's only 2 days old or so. It also leaks when it's tipped to the side, but I'm assuming I can just grease up the o ring to stop that. Useless thing lol, back to Fluval I go!

Thats not really assuring to hear that tiping on the side will cause a leak!

I guess it could be the o ring thats not creating a proper vacum. My 2217 is a second hand one and Ive used it for 2 years now and no problems with it.

If theres no air in it and its leaking then it sounds like a faulty one I think

I only cover mine with a small towel to use it to soak up the water from the pipes when doing water change thats all 🙂
