New filter maintenance

Hi all, 

Well iv had my new tank running for a week now (35l tank) and am wondering what to do about filter maintenance. I'm using a brand new Tetratec EX600 with ADA Amazonia substrate, it's still in the cycling stage and still leeching ammonia which I anticipate to last a couple of weeks yet. I'm doing daily water changes which I will switch to once every 2 days as soon as the ammonia release starts slowing. My question is do I leave the filter alone until it's cycled so not to disturb the bacteria growth (iv added material to the tank from a used filter) or should I check the media and clean?

i wouldnt touch the filter for at least a couple of months if not more aside from changing over floss if you have any.
