Picked up a shoal of neons today but i suspect they are a mix of normal and green.
I think the suppliers tank had both but it was hard to tell the difference.
How green any of them looked varied in the light.

Now they are home though, and settling, I think I can tell easier.
But, I want to make sure. I think I've worked out 2 obvious giveaways but wanted to check.

Firstly, viewed from above, or looking at the top of the fish when it swims towards you, green neon are darker.
But, more obviously, the blue stripe in a neon fades out into the back just before the tail and the stripe on the greens extends the full length of the body right up to the tail.

Am I right?
The darker ones with that kind of stripe seem to be the ones that have more of a green look to the stripe.

Thanks.

The greens are slimmer and have a less pronounced red and a more pronounced neon intensity if you look at them side on. The neon bar takes up more of the body in green neons, so you are correct.

Thanks.
They all look healthy but not vert colourful at the moment so it's hard to judge by colour, especially red.
They are smaller and slimmer too, bit they are all mixed sizes.

Hopefully they will colour up. They haven't been in the country long so are no doubt still settling, but they are quite pale.
Good shape, good body condition and nicely active though so hopefully just need to settle down and get some decent food in them.
