I mentioned this in another thread but haven't had any response so i thought i would ask again. I recently got a 50ft python and don't want this to happen to the tubing. I've only used it once and when i was packing it away i kept the tubing held high and the water would go further down and then i would rap it round my arm then same again till i reached the toilet bowl. I could still see their was little specks of water all the way down the tubing once i was done and dusted. Does this matter and will it create mould if left?

I too am the new owner of a python (only a 25') and I am hoping the tubing won't react with the water. I also figured that as you suck water out first then anything that might have made it into the tank will get sucked down the sink before you refill it.

I've used mine for probably 6 years now. I every so often flush it with very hot tap water..Its always wet inside when I drain it...I haven't had any issue with the fish using it for so long. I use it every weekend...I don't think there's enough time for mould to actually grow undisturbed..As jameson_uk mentiones, you drain first then you fill too, little issue with any old water getting into the tank..But if in doubt, run some hot water through it first.

I don't know why you and jameson_uk are mentioning old water getting back into the tank? I'm just worried about 50ft of tubing being mould free and if it would be detrimental to use mouldy tubing?

Mine is 50ft....6 years old. Why do you think the tubing would develop mould? I live in a mould heaven country, the walls even get mould here....but I haven't had any issues with my siphon...

I mentioned old water, because any old water develops bacteria...who knows of which type....so I rather not have a week old water back into the tank...As for mould, I have not noticed any ever growing inside the tubing of the siphon...My guess is because one flushes it weekly with chlorinated water the least..

I had some brain fog or crypt melt would be more apt on this site, going on then sorry, stupid fibro. So basically if yours is still ok, mine will be fine. Still abit confused, feel like I've dug myself a hole that i know i should be able to climb out of. Straight up.

Hey...just wanted to post a picture of my old siphon for peace of mind...The hose is grey naturally. I've never physically brushed it inside...odd times with hot tap water. I think the weekly use prevents anything from growing much..looking at it...I'd sometimes have pieces of plant matter inside, etc but that's about it...It doesn't look extremely bad for a 6 year old siphon. Here it is:

There is some gunk in the side where it connects to the tap...My guess is some of the debris can't get out properly when I start the siphon. The other side is clear.
