hi, i'm pretty new to photography, so my pics aren't that good. last weekend i bought a Canon EOS 1000D. i have read through the manual and some info on the internet and tonight i have been photographing my male kribensis. i have the ISO setting on 1600 which is the highest and was using the P mode and manual focusing. here are my pics:

i'm quite pleased with them, but i'd like them to be a tiny bit darker, as i feel they are too pale. also, how could i get the edges of the fins more defined?

cheers 😀

Nice shots of nice fish! Congrats.

You've got the eye sharp in most frames. That's the key to fish photography, as we are instinctively drawn to look at eyes first.

If your aperture is wide (low f number) then this may throw the fins out of focus a little.

You'll need to reduce the aperture (higher f number), but this reduces the amount of light getting to the camera's sensor. The result is that you either have to slow the shutter speed down, or ramp up the ISO (1600 is max on your model), or the best solution is to get more light above the tank.

Try shooting in Av mode (aperture priority). Your camera will sort out the shutter speed (and ISO if you wish), but you have control over the aperture (f number).

Keep at it! 😀

thanks, i've tried reducing the apperture but it made the shutter speed really slow, so it became blurred. i'm going to try with my hunting lamp pointing from above to see if that helps. what else could i try if that doesn't work, as i don't have any proper lights.i think i need to get a tripod as well, probably for christmas.

cheers for the help. 😀
