Hi all,

Looking for suggestions for a low tech tank in terms of fertilization. It has aqua soil for root feeders looking for something to assist water column feeders.

I have seen the seachem brand around, flourish and flourish excel was my thoughts originally but open for suggestions. Tank is 180l and looking for something once or twice a week .....low maintenance/low effort/ lazy

i dose macro's monday, wednesday and friday, micro's Tuesday and thursday. Did that for the last three years or so. Right now i dose far less, and wait to see how the plants react, about once every two weeks.

Do you want to use 'liquid carbon' (excel)? You don't have to, it will probably make your plants grow quicker but that's not something everyone wants, sometimes slow and healthy is fine if you are getting that already. If you do use it, you have to dose it daily and the plants will probably also use more ferts.

Lowest effort if you've plants not rooted in substrate would be an all in one liquid you could dose weekly. If so the next question is do you want a complete one with NPK (nitrogen etc.) or just trace (flourish). If you are doing liquid carbon you probably also want a complete fert to keep up with the plants. You may also want it if your plants look yellow and not great or you are stocked very lightly so lack pooping fish.

If your plants are happy right now and you just want to a back up, then I'd go for flourish or similar dosed as per the bottle and just keep at eye out for how the plants do and you can adjust if you need to later.

I'm doing a weekly dose after water change.. With dry salts. The water change depends, 50% and sometimes more.

I know the spoon size by now, 1 spoon flat is roughly 1,5 grams, so i scoop the whole package in a bottle, shake and drop it in and done..

My tap has some N i could do without adding but just in case it fluctuates i add some additional N having 20 or 30ppm doesn't mater anyway.

The day after i dose Profito and a root booster for the Micro's.. Now and then i pop a root tab into the substrate where needed. 🙂
