Not long ago, I purchased from eBay, an old Eheim 2322 for parts (I'm running a 2124 on my tank).
After I clean and oil it, I started to compare the heads between the filters and I couldn't find any differences between, except the data sticker.
This made me think: how much l/hour this pump can give?
Having some time to spare, I did the following test (see the pics) and measure the output of the pump.
The results were consistent and give me the value of 600 l/hour.
This is more than th 500 l/h stated and prompted me to test the 2124 experience one as well.
Guess what?!... After 4 consistent tests the results come at 600 l/hour as well.
Right,... then what will happen if I add some resistance to the water flow? So I dig up quickly my old hose and spray bar and add them to the quick connector. Doing the 4 plus 4 measurements again I consistently end up with 472 l/hour for both pumps, which is more than 20% drop in theflow.
So, my conclusion is, as we all knew, that the actual expected flow of a fitted canister filter, will be half of the stated flow, on the badge.
The only thing which I don't understand is why the 2322 give me more flow than expected?... maybe is it having the impeller changed, to a bigger one (it's the same as in the 2124)?
Can anyone having a 2322 or a 2422 eheim, post a picture of their impeller?
Thanks
