Lave rock as a media

Has anyone here ever used black lava rock as a bio media?
I've got a load I could break up into small bit but wanted to know of any experiences with using it?

I’m sure it would work, but 20ppi and 30ppi foams would be much better. You’ll have a challenge breaking it to the right size to balance flow through it with effectiveness.
