Lava rock question

Asking for a friend (honestly am).

She's setting up a 25 litre Betta or Nano cube low tech. She'd like to use some lava rock pieces collected by her kids from Mt Etna. I've only ever bought lava rock, never foraged for it - is lava rock just lava rock or are there any types which are heavy parameter influencers. The tank is at her home which is in the West Bridgford area of Nottingham, recent 14 degree hardness clark.

I'm no expert or Geologist but I wouldn't hesitate to use it, the only precaution I would take is to give it a couple of weeks and a few water changes before introducing livestock (which you should probably be doing anyway on a new tank) just to be on the safe side.
