So the juwel rekord filter has a green sponge that the manual says is to remove nitrates.

Is this bad for plants and should I remove it as part of the tnc complete I dose is nitrates.

Remove it (or let it get exhausted) as it will be removing the nitrates you are adding, depriving the plants of nitrates.

Thanks, I will remove it during maintenance on monday.

Hi! As a former RIO 300 owner I can tell you that Juwel stock media is completely worthless- as is the internal filter, but this is another discussion- and I ended up by discarding all that useless sponge and replacing it with ADA
Bio RIO and ADA charcoal

Sadly it is what it is, I am going to replace the pump with the 500 l/h pump that juwel says fits the filter in the 600.

Edit 13:27 PM: Maintenance done, removed the green media.
