Hi folks,

I have a quick query regarding lighting. I currently am using the standard Juwel T5HO 2 x 54w on a Rio 240l tank, I have been given this product http://www.wave-point.com/Lighting_folder/LEDHOLightStrip.html
by a friend and am wondering if getting another would be a good upgrade from the T5s. I'm aiming for a low tech non CO2 planted tank, so am wondering if this would be a good way to go. I'm new to all this so any thoughts would be appreciated.
Thanks

I would be very careful as there is absolutely no information given on the LED brightness thus can't say anything about this fixture. I suspect as using "no name" 1W LED's I doubt is even comes near the light output of a single T5HO tube. None of the pictures of tanks using this LED show plants, so another indicator of low light.

Standard 54W T5HO are about 5000lumens, thus your tank at 10,000lumens is in the high light region.

To lower your light level with existing tubes place foil rings around the tubes or place a sheet of frosted gray plastic over top of the tank.

Thanks for the advice re shielding the tubes, its a shame I can't remove one of the them, but apparently they wont work singlularly.

Wave Point Technology has been on the market for a few years - you can find decent reviews on their refugium light LED's
They note on their website that LED's (used) may change depending on market, if you email with your product serial number etc, you should be able to get some information on the unit you have, you may also be able to obtain information on which LED's are used in current models of interest
Note that Wave Point offers 10K, 8K, 6.5K Daylight, Super Blue etc LED systems

Perhaps there are low output 1 watt LED's on the market, but in my experience, low output systems utilize the (MUCH) cheaper 0.1, 0.2, 0.4 watt LED's ... I've yet to see an aquarium LED unit with 1 watt LED's that is not decent intensity

You can see some planted tank videos on AQUADESIGN by aquamaniac Youtube channel

TECH REVIEW - Wavepoint LED unit review
there are additional video's on this tank so you can likely get more details on tank progress

As you were given the unit, why not test it out 😉
