Is anyone to help explain why this is happening?

I belive it is a narrow leaf java fern that is not planted in substrate. Is near CO2 and as far as I can see plenty of light?

Thanks a lot, really appreciate it so much to learn!! I was told it was a narrow leaf java fern which explains it. I took it out of the rock and it had really long roots so obviously trying to get to the substrate. At least I know now

Can I also get your opinion on this which also doesn't look very happy.

I think its either a

Hygrophila Lancea Araguaia or a Cryltocoryne Undulatus Red

That is another crypt. The tank looks new from the picture and cryptocorynes can take a while to settle in, grow a strong root system, before they start growing strongly. The crypts look healthy in the pictures maybe the first signs of leaf melting (common in crypts as they transfer for emersed growth to submersed), so I wouldn't worry.

Hi Mort. Yes only about 3 weeks old so very new. Thanks for your help

Really looking forward to seeing some thick growth as I have a mixed bag of plant species in my tank 😎
