Is this Algae?

Hi there, firstly apologies if I’m on the wrong forum or not using this discussion correctly, I’m sure I will soon be told. But while walking through my little wood I came across a large lump of bright green slime stuck to a cherry tree? I assume it’s Algae? Please see image. Any help, point in direction or constructive information would be greatly appreciated. Thank you
