Is it possible to tune your Macro ferts by measuring your pH?
I am dailing in my new aquarium. I bought a pH pen to measure the pH profile during the day. Attached picture shows two measured curves next to my light profile. Moment of switching CO2 on and off are indicated.
The orange curve was my first measured curve. I expected it would flat out at 6.6 but mid day it dipped further down to 6.5.
I was wondering why this would happen. I was still dosing daily very low amounts of ferts. I was thinking if it could be possible that the plants runned out of macro's and consumed less CO2 resulting in lowering the pH?
Next dat i dosed a bit more and spread over multiple doses over the day the ferts. Then the result was the blue curve. The whole curve is starting at a higher level and it stays longer flat over the day. Which would tell me according my hypothesis that the plants did not run out of CO2. They consumed more CO2 resulting in a higer pH over the day.
What makes me think of this is also that i dont understand why the first orange curve is already going up before the co2 is switched off. Also because dimming the lights should reduce co2 consumption. But that day i also dosed macros at around 18oclock. Could that be the reason for the pH going up because of the plants again starting to consume co2?
Maybe i am looking to much in detail. But i saw the oppertunity to tune the macro fert tuning this way, preventing dosing way to much. Currently i am following the pps pro approach.
I like to hear your thoughs on this and thanks for your advice....
