I've got the steel outlet/inlet pair that comes with a plastic skimmer. Any tips for it working efficiently? Can't seem to get the balance right..
Does the vent need to be completely open/closed?.. any thoughts thanks !
It's a tough balancing act between the flow rate of the filter and how much float the skimmer has... I could always get it good for a few days then it would either stop skimming effectively, or start bobbing up and down. I'm guessing you're in the same boat.
I settled on putting an o-ring (The same one from from the bottom of the tube) on the outside of the skimmer tube and shaking the float to lose all the air from under the cup. so the skimmer was essentially fixed in place but you can adjust the height very easily. This worked well and the only thing to affect it would be when the water level dropped from evaporation.
I've since gone to a ADA skimmer and although ludicrously priced I would happily buy one again if it came to it.
