Evening all,
I have a 160L community tank, well planted, 2 x3' 36w t8 @ 6h a day, with yeasty co2 demijon bubbling away.
I bought some amazon frogbit from that well known auction site and it seemed to have been delivered with a stowaway duck week...now i just cant get rid of the damned stuff! The rest of the tank has a green tinge to it as the lights are shining through this haenous mat of duckweed!!!!

I bought a small surface skimmer which is ok, but bungs up quite quickly.
Any ideas chaps/chapesses?

pick off the amazon frogbits rinse it and place it in a bucket of water. If you don't have shrimps in the tank which may hang out on the duckweed just take a net and run it across the surface whilst making sure no fish etc are caught in the process.

p.s This process may need to be repeated in the future because if you leave enough in the tank they will come back.

Manual removal is key really. Take out everything floating, plus the filter, rinse everything clean of duckweed, then scoop out all the rest of it from the tank. Even old dead looking bits stuck above the water line. You have to be meticulous. Then check at least twice daily for any bits that escaped you for the next few days. Hunt down any last survivors. Have no mercy. Exterminate on sight. It can be done!

Merciless extermination. Heh, I like your style!
All the amazon frogbit needs washing off? Eek! That's going to irk the gourami, he loves nibbling the ends! 🙂

Minor update....

Had to remove everything from the tank, bog wood, plants, the lot. Seems that duckweek hides under things at the bottom of the tank too!!
Thanks for your help chaps, now duckweed free!!
